Brighton Photo Fringe is a volunteer-led, collaborative platform providing essential professional development opportunities and peer-support for emerging lens-based artists.

Committed to equality and diversity, BPF's year-round programme fosters ambition, innovation and self-reliance in artists; nurtures confidence and creativity in participants; and inspires audiences with extraordinary images in unexpected places.

BPF offers focused support of early-career artists, students and amateurs. Renowned for promoting outstanding new talent, BPF connects this nascent talent to new audiences, working with artist-led initiatives and festivals around the country.

BPF has gained international recognition for the quality of its inclusive programmes over the past decade. The open ethos of the Fringe makes it distinct from any other photography or lens based festival presently working in the UK. Participation is key to everything we deliver, whether it is directly targeted at participants, community groups or audiences.

Established by local artists in 2003 to compliment Brighton Photo Biennial (BPB), every two years BPF designs and delivers a city-wide festival of exhibitions and events that attracts local, national and international participants and audiences. Since its inception, the BPF has grown into one of the largest festivals of its kind in the UK, attracting over 60,000 visitors in 2014. Showcasing the best of current photographic practice, BPF is open to everyone and everybody's invited. Our next festival will be in October 2016.

BPF works from the creative cluster in Brighton to support accessible activity across the South East. No other organisation in the region does as much to support early-career, lens-based artists. Led by an experienced Board, BPF works with a huge range of organisations and stake-holders, with funding from Arts Council England, Brighton & Hove City Council, the National Lottery and our main sponsor Metro Imaging.

Join us and be part of the Fringe... come to our regular networking events, exhibit or volunteer or take part in our projects.

  • Support us

BPF consistently demonstrates exceptional value for money. Led by volunteers, BPF endeavours to make all its activities self-financing. Public funding makes up only a third of the current BPF budget and pays for freelance consultants essential to delivering our intensive programmes. Help us continue to develop our much-needed programmes by donating here. Every little helps.

  • Volunteers

BPF is a registered charity and a volunteer-led organisation without ongoing core funding. We operate through collective and partnership working and the hugely generous gifts of time that all kinds of people offer to us.

There are many opportunities to get involved through volunteering across the festival and its exciting programme of exhibitions, talks, workshops, screenings, tours and more.
